While we are passionate about the original Bugeye instruments, there’s a lot to love about this brand new GPS driven unit. The impetus for this product was customer requests for more speedometer accuracy. The originals were never perfectly accurate, and if you start changing your tire size and rear end ratio, you will find the speedo only gets more inaccurate.
This new GPS speedo, on the other hand, is accurate all day long, and we have worked hard to make it look as close as possible to the original look of the Mark 1 Speedo. These are exactly the same size as the original gauges and fit right into the existing holes on your dashboard. They're easier to mount in the dashboard too.
These new instruments run on key-fed 12 volts and will delivery to your dashboard an accurate speed and digital odometer every where you go. We’ve had dozens of odometer failures on the original mechanical gauges… no more! This unit should last a lifetime. And it's guaranteed for life just in case.
You will need to stick the small waterproof GPS antenna on your dashboard, so your new Bugeye GPS can connect to a satellite (Egads, I just used Bugeye and satellite in the same sentence... Elon Musk, can you read me?) These gauges are able to work with your hardtop because it can pick up the signal through the glass if the antenna is on the dash.
With your GPS connection (which works all over the world), you get a host of new features never before offered in a Bugeye Sprite on any planet. By scrolling through the menu with the little black button on the face of the gauge, you can see your altitude, compass heading, miles, time of day, top speed reached, and my personal favorite, 0-60 time (it’ll tell you quarter mile time too). Your old-fashioned one-speed windshield wipers are going to be pretty embarrassed sharing a dashboard parked next to all this technology. But if this product makes driving your car more fun and more reliable, we are all for it!
We have an article detailing this great product, find it here.
The square display at the bottom of the gauge always shows the odometer at the top, and the trip odometer beneath it, unless you scroll through the menu to show one of the other functions mentioned above, which will replace the trip odometer. EG, you will see odometer on the top display and altitude above sea level beneath it, if you select that function. If you have to disconnect your battery, the speedometer memories do stay, meaning you won't lose your mileage.
Negative ground required. Very low voltage drain. Easy to wire-up. Instructions included. If you have at the wrong speedo or a non-working speedo or odometer, you will love this product!
INSTALLATION NOTE: These require a 3-7/8" inch gauge hole - it's a 4" gauge including the bezel. This will not fit on later British cars with a smaller gauge. There is a black wire that is present on the back of this gauge that is not in the wiring diagram - it is ground wire.
The instructions may refer to the high beam wire as blue/white but it can be just blue.
Additional installation note: The newest generation of the speedos have been built with LED lights and will no longer need a power inverter for dash illumination. Simply connect the white power wire to dash light power. If you have two black wires on a single connector off the gauge, then it will need the inverter. We are updating the instructions as we get them in but some may have gone through before we knew of the change! Please contact us with any questions, we are here to help!

One more note: An apology to our Metric nation clients, but the speedometer shows MPH only.
