Complete Rebuilt pre-tested/bench run 1275 Engines from the Engine Experts at Bugeyeguys

We’re exited to announce that we now offer complete rebuilt and pre-run engines for all Sprite and Midget owners seeking power and reliability!

We’ve now sold and restored more than 500 Sprites and Midgets and we’ve had about 20 years of experience making them reliable enough to drive cross town or cross-country. Now, we’ve partnered with a premier British engine builder to design the ultimate 1275 A-series engines that will meet the needs of every Spridget owner.

Reliability, power and drivability are our focus. Our engines are made to run well, leak a minimal amount of oil (if any) and to provide enough power to make anyone smile. In fact, we have custom designed three different engines with a range of tune so you can add as much power as you like. We have something to fit every budget if you want to upgrade your Sprite or Midget to a strong 1275 engine!

Stage 1 - Strong 1275 Improved Stock Road Engine ~75 Horsepower - $6,995
This is a stock 1275 engine mildly worked-over to optimize the stock configuration. As with all our engines, this stage 1 engine is built with a new performance cam, hardened valve seats (for unleaded gas), and is completely reconditioned in every way: cleaned and bored block with new pistons and valves & new or reconditioned forged rocker assembly. This is a strong and smooth running option for anyone who wants power and reliability with no need to win the stop light grandprix. This is a completely reconditioned stock engine with some minor performance upgrades and an upgraded rear main seal kit. You can clean up and re-use your 1275 flywheel and clutch, or you can purchase our aluminum flywheel and clutch kit from us at an additional cost. 

Stage 2 - Deluxe Fast Road Engine ~ 90 Horsepower - $9,495
This is a hotter engine with more power and torque. We’ve done more head work to get more performance and boosted the compression ratio to put more power on the road. We also use 1.3 roller rockers for an improved valvetrain, fit a three layer head gasket for reliability and durability, installed an upgraded camshaft and installed competition head studs. We also provide a lightened stock flywheel already machined, and a performance clutch kit to handle the extra power without slipping. Everything is new, as is in the stage 1 engine, with an upgraded rear seal kit fit to minimize oil leaks. This is a great engine if you want more grunt but don't need to go all-out.

Stage 3 - 1330 CC Super Sport Engine ~100 Horsepower - $10,995
All the new parts as in the stage 1 & 2 engines, with bigger bores and the addition of 1.5 roller rockers, high performance pistons, a large valve cylinder head, and an even higher compression ratio. We’ve pushed the performance to the max while still building an engine that will run on US premium pump gas sold at any filling station in America (with or without E10 ethanol). For improved durability, we’ve added two additional head studs and a tri layer head gasket. The 11 stud head was tested for years on Austin Mini Cooper S heads from the factory, so we make this modification to these stage 3 engines to improve durability for miles to come. This is our most powerful configuration, designed for max power and torque while still maintaining a great idle and great drivability. We haven't pushed it so far that we ruin the driving characteristics, but you’ll recognize this is one quick Sprite when this engine is installed.

We sell complete induction systems for these engines too! We suggest new twin HS2 carbs for the Stage 1 or the Stage 2.

If you want even more power, upgrade to the single HIF 44 carb and new manifold for either of these engines.

For the Stage 3 engine, we recommend the HIF 44 set-up or completely refurbished twin HS4 carbs and manifold,(twin 1.5 inch carbs) which we can also provide.

We are currently working on providing an induction kit with a HIF44 & intake manifold and a different induction kit with twin HS4 carbs & intake manifold. Soon to come!

These engines will be shipped via freight. When checking-out online, shipping will not be calculated. We will contact you to provide an accurate crating and shipping cost. 

NOTE: freight will be more cost efficient if the engine is sent to a business address with a loading dock or forklift.
