It's smart to carry a fire extinguisher in any classic car. Fire risk is very low, but in the event of a fire, the replacement cost and the hassle could be enormous.
If your Hyundai burns up on the side of the road, obviously you can go to the dealer and get another one. However, if your Bugeye (that you spent years restoring) ignites, (even though there's a small possibility of that happening) the fire extinguisher could be the most valuable piece of equipment on your car.
While you might be tempted to take a cheap Home Depot Dry chemical extinguisher and throw it in the boot, a discharged cheap dry chemical extinguisher will make a massive powdery mess of your interior (or engine bay) and is not recommended. If your wiring starts to smoke, the last thing you want is dry chemical powder infused in all the pores of your interior. Not only will you have fire damage but you’ll have interior damage for the extinguisher as well!
We’ve sourced a compact extinguisher filled with Halotron, which is a non-residue producing, wet chemical extinguisher that will fight fires effectively. It's more environmentally friendly than the old Halon extinguishers and it's also rechargeable should you ever need to discharge it. It will fit right behind the passenger floor crossmember on your Bugeye where are you'll have it handy should something start to smolder. Recommended for all Bugeyes and Spridgets, and any British car looking for a little added extra protection!
Vehicle mounting bracket available separately.
