The reason why? Because our slave is designed with the installer in mind! Traditionally, it is difficult to remove the upper mounting bolt due to the slave mount on the bell housing being very close to the body of the car. Trying to get a wrench on the upper bolt can be challenging, and the narrow work arear gets smaller as the bolt unscrews. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOur modified slave cylinder allows you to simply loosen the top bolt then slide the slave cylinder into position under the bolt without having to remove the bolt completely from the bell housing. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis is the best slave cylinder we can get on the market (Lockheed brand), made better by our modifications! We opt to only use premium hydraulic components because they last longer than the cheap alternatives that are available. After more than 500 cars through our building, we've learned that it is \u003cb\u003enot worth it\u003c\/b\u003e to use a cheaper product and have to \u003cb\u003edo the job a second time\u003c\/b\u003e. We know this from experience, the cheaper available slave cylinders are junk. I, personally, would pay any amount of money to not have to do this job twice. I have been on my back on a creeper with hydraulic fluid running into my armpit too many times and if I can pay a little more and ensure my slave cylinder will last longer, I will do that any day of the week and I suggest you do so too! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cb\u003eINSTALLATION NOTE 1: The bleeder screw on the slave can sometimes come from the supplier with the bleeder screw in the forward-facing hole on the slave. This is done for shipping purposes, but is incorrect for installation, as the bleeder needs to be in the top hole to allow the air to be bled from the clutch hydraulic system properly! We generally try to swap it to the correct hole before we ship it, but sometimes we don't catch it. We use this master on both disc and drum brake cars. Some people like to use a 3\/4 bore master when changing to front disc brakes in a Bugeye, but we prefer 7\/8 for both drum and disc, primarily because we find the 3\/4 bore master makes the brake pedal too spongy. I have used a 7\/8 master on Gumby with disc brakes since 1979, and prefer the quick and firm pedal action of that set up and I believe you will too. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a great quality direct replacement for your old leaky \/ worn out dual master. A clutch and good brakes are obviously essential, and so everything has to be optimized or you could loose one or both crucial systems. Hydraulic leaks and failures are the number one problem area on all classic British cars. Here’s a kit to help you make everything last.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYears ago, I would rebuild my leaking cylinders. I would meticulously hone the bores and replace the rubber parts. Inevitability, leaks would re-appear in months not years and I would have to start over, and once more bleed everything to get the pedals functioning properly. I can’t think of anything more frustrating than having to do the same hydraulic job twice with less than a year between jobs.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNext I spent a lot of money having brass sleeves installed, to protect the bores from pitting. But I never found that there was a good return on that investment, because even my sleeved masters would eventually start leaking on my shoes sooner than I would have liked!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSo now we exclusively use new parts, this has proven most cost effective. We have put together a kit of all the pieces you will need to replace everything. These are the best parts we have been able to find, and the same parts we use on all our customer cars.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe have a great track record with this kit-you will too. Make sure to change everything all at once, because if any one cylinder is leaking in your system, the others are not far behind. Clutch slaves are notorious for leaking, and sometimes it seems like we are changing them daily! So if you are doing all your wheel cylinders, make certain to thoroughly inspect your slave too!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRemember, the issue with any classic car hydraulic system is moisture. Because the caps are all vented, atmospheric air is in your system and so is the moisture that comes with it. So no matter what parts you use, be sure to change your hydraulic fluid no more than every two years. That will get the moisture out and restart the clock. Your parts will last longer.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe have tried DOT 5 silicone fluid, which is particularly nice because it won’t eat up the paint on your car if you have any leaks. We’ve seen a few cars with paint damage all the way down the rocker panel because of master cylinder leaks, and silicone prevents paint damage. The problem with silicone is that it makes the pedal a bit spongier, which I don’t like in a car with so many direct inputs. As such, we use Castrol LMA dot 3 fluid, and thats what we recommend.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNote: The bleeder screw on the slave can sometimes come from the supplier with the bleeder screw in the forward-facing hole on the slave. This is done for shipping purposes, but is incorrect for installation, as the bleeder needs to be in the top hole to allow the air to be bled from the clutch hydraulic system properly! We generally try to swap it to the correct hole before we ship it, but sometimes we don't catch it.
