If you are thinking of changing your ignition switch, this is the part you need.
Here's why:
All the pieces need machining to fit. The other catalog companies don't tell you this, but it takes a fair bit of skill to assemble a complete switch that will stay together. We have done that work for you. In fact, there seems only one supplier for the switch worldwide (we have ordered them from multiple sources, they are all the same). There are at least four different ways in which these switches can break if you are not familiar with assembling them. It has been essential for us to have a switch that both works and looks good for our restorations in house. Now we have made that same upgraded switch available for our catalog customers as well.
With this complete kit, you can simply install and wire up the switch without hassling with the switch components. Our custom guillotine is included, which locks everything to the dashboard just right. The original switches came with what amounts to a useless paperclip to hold it into the dash, and if you've ever wrestled with one, you'll understand why the guillotine is a brilliant innovation. It clamps the ignition switch, and then anchors to the dashboard, so that the body of your new ignition switch will finally be rigidly anchored to your dashboard! This item is the complete assembly including the guillotine.
A few install notes:
  • Make sure to disconnect battery power prior to installing your new switch.
  • The wire colors are as follows:
    • "H" Terminal (Headlight Feed): Blue Wire
    • "S" Terminal (Side lights): Red Wire
    • Keyed "Ignition" Feed: White Wire
    • Constant Power Feed (May be labeled as "A" on your diagrams): Brown Wire with Blue Tracer
  • Although not necessary, it is easier to complete this install if you remove your turn signal switch.
  • The terminals on ALL these switches are fragile. If you over-torque the small slotted screws that hold your wires to the switch, you might break off the terminals. So don't over-tighten! We reinforce terminals where needed so it is not unusual to see extra solder or epoxy over the terminals on our switches. This helps improve durability.
  • The two larger screws that hold the guillotine together need to be oriented upwards for you to be able to access them with the allen key.
  • Some people think using shorter allen wrenches for installation is easier, so feel free to cut or modify the two small allen wrenches included.
